A Suffolk man is hoping the local community will step forward and support him as he undertakes a fundraising cycle ride from London to Paris.
Nathian Spalding from Hadleigh is taking part in the MS Society’s London – Paris Cycle ride on the 2nd July and will also donate a portion of the funds raised to Sue Ryder Care – The Chantry.
Tracey Plested, Community and Day Services Manager at Sue Ryder Care approached Nathian to discuss a fundraising event for the popular 5R’s course. The 5Rs is a ten-week programme of alternative therapies and information for people living with Multiple Sclerosis (MS), which aims to promote independence, choice and confidence building, devised and developed at neurological care centre Sue Ryder Care - The Chantry.
The MS Society agreed to Nathian raising funds for both charities and so he is now well in to training and hoping local people will step forward and sponsor him.
Nathian is well aware of the great work that takes place at Sue Ryder Care - The Chantry as his partner Leanne Hammond is a Support Worker at the neurological care centre. Leanne has worked at Sue Ryder Care for 10 years and has been involved with the 5R’s course since it began in 2006. Over this time, and with an uncle who has been living with MS for a number of years, Nathian has learnt a lot about people living with MS and has come to understand many of the problems that occur with this condition. Nathian said: “Both Leanne and I would love to see the 5R’s course at Sue Ryder Care continue and grow, as so many people who have attended have benefited greatly. It is often a help just to meet others with the same condition or to find one of the therapy or group sessions can help in some way. I’m hoping to raise as much as possible and would be grateful for any support from the local community.”
