Oh what a night! More than 250 women put on their Lipstick and Trainers to enjoy a Saturday night out with a difference in Bridlington on 17th May.
They took part in the first ladies only Midnight Walk in aid of Sue Ryder Care, and together raised £15,000.
Before the walk the women took part in a warm-up session with BBC Radio Humberside’s Christine Barker and were given head-torches to assist the full moon in lighting up the six-mile route which began and finished at the Sewerby Hall continuing along the cliff tops and the foreshore. The walk was officially started by Susan Cunliffe-Lister, Lord Lieutenant of the East Riding. On their return the walkers were treated to bacon butties and hot drinks and collected well-deserved medals.
Sue Ryder Care fundraisers Deborah Rack and Jackie Sedgwick said: ‘It was a magical evening and it was so inspiring to see all the girls - ranging in age from nine to seventy - some in fantastic outfits, having such a good time but raising an amazing amount in the process.’
Many of the walkers had a personal connection and have seen the charity in action at the nearest Sue Ryder Care centre at Holme Hall, at Holme-on-Spalding Moor. Here 36 adults receive specialist care for life-limiting neurological conditions such as Multiple Sclerosis, Huntington’s disease, Parkinson’s disease, Motor Neurone Disease, Stroke and Acquired Brain Injury.
Deborah and Jackie said ‘The £15,000 pledged is beyond our expectations and we’d like to thank everyone for supporting us in this way. All the sponsorship money will go to Sue Ryder Care to help us help more people in need of our care. We'd also like to thank all of the stewards on the night and the support received from local companies which helped to cover our costs. We will definitely be repeating it next year so watch this space for the date!’
