Adura Odesanya (26) from Wood Green in North London was one of the 700 runners who took part in 2007's Beat the Baton and raised money for Sue Ryder Care.
Sue Ryder Care is a charity close to Adura's heart as her mother suffered a subarachnoid haemorrhage in 2003. After living with the effects of the serious brain injury for a number of years, Adura's mother, Kehinde, died peacefully just a few weeks ago.
Adura said, "When I read about the specialist care that Sue Ryder Care offers people living with neurological conditions including acquired brain injury, like my mum, and what a difference they make to peoples lives, I really wanted to raise money to support the charity. So I decided to sign-up for Beat the Baton. It was a really fun day despite the weather and I raised just over £400 for Sue Ryder Care."
Adura added, "Running Beat the Baton and raising money for Sue Ryder Care was my way of showing my mummy how much I loved her, and believing and hoping she would get better."
With every step, runners like Adura are enabling us to provide more care for people living with life-limiting conditions. Each year, Sue Ryder Care needs to raise £13 million in voluntary income to continue to provide care that liberates lives at 14 care centres nationwide.
